There’s a myth in fitness, one that I believed prior to scaling my studios, that you need tons of capital to start a studio — like a giant bank account before you ever step foot in a space.

Most successful studios & businesses didn’t launch perfectly funded — mine certainly didn’t. They launched with grit, strategy, and momentum fueled by resourcefulness. That’s the story I want to share today: money rarely makes a founder succeed, but it’s often what makes them doubt they can.

When I began scaling my Lagree studio brand, I quickly realized I couldn’t wait for perfect funding or circumstances. I had to get scrappy and creative — figuring out ways to make things happen with the resources I had, building a team I could trust, and leaning on my community to grow alongside me. That scrappiness became a superpower, and it’s what allowed me to move forward even when money felt impossible.

Here’s how you can do it too.

1. Start Lean and Build Smarter

The most common mistake I see founders make is waiting until every single detail is perfect — the “dream location,” the “full team,” or the “perfect equipment budget.” The truth? Those are often unnecessary barriers, especially at the start.

Don’t get me wrong, they are essential to build & eventually complete, but in the early phases instead, focus on what actually moves the needle: a functional space, well sourced equipment, and the ability to welcome your first clients.
